Lunch with Carleton Careers Alumni Board Members

Students are invited to lunch with Carleton Careers Alumni Board members and business/consulting alums Gordon Walker '97 (Economics) and Susan Hammel '86 (Philosophy), and Cornell Hills ’74 (Psychology). Enjoy a casual conversation about career and education paths post-Carleton.

Gordon Walker - CEO, Riverbend Energetics - Gordon has had an interesting and varied career journey across a number of businesses and industries: a family-owned business, an industrial conglomerate, a standalone public company, and in private equity.  In these roles he has had significant experience with mergers and acquisitions. He is currently the CEO of Riverbend Energetics.  He also has an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business. Gordon serves on Carleton's Careers Advisory Board.

Susan Hammel - President, Cogent Consulting PBC - As a philosophy major who went to Wall Street, Susan translates between passionate social changemakers and expert investors. In her role as Founder of Cogent Consulting PBC, Susan is serving her eighth year as Executive in Residence with the Minnesota Council on Foundations. Collaborating with MCF staff, Susan designed and launched the Minnesota Impact Investing Collaborative fund, a place-based fixed income strategy for affordable housing, now with $110 million in assets. She also designed and led the MCF Integrated Capital Recovery Program, raising $44 million for CDFIs in direct response to the COVID-19 crisis and riots in the summer of 2020.

Susan obtained her Masters in Public Policy from Harvard, is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and graduated cum laude from Carleton. With extensive Board experience, Susan serves on the Trillium Family Foundation Board and Carleton's Careers Advisory Board.

Cornell Hills, Former President, TAA - As president of TAA, Cornell brought more than 40 years of consulting, process implementation, and business management experience to enterprise transformation. He spent 20 years in leadership positions with IBM Consulting Services and PricewaterhouseCoopers where he worked with more than 100 commercial and federal government clients. His consulting career has encompassed a variety of industries including commercial, banking, legal services, civil, defense, and intelligence community accounts. After working for several large consulting firms, Cornell founded TAA in 2004 with the vision to help customers improve their organization and move it forward by focusing on technology implementation and insertion, business process, and organizational change services. While with TAA, he has helped clients become a more efficient and cost-effective partner and supporter of their mission.

Cornell received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Carleton College in Minnesota, which included a year studying Psychology at the Rheinische Friedrichs Wilhelm Üniversität Bonn in Bonn, West Germany. He passed the Arizona Bar after receiving his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is also a member of SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), and has appeared in several theater, voiceover and commercial projects.
