Artist Talk: Dustin Yager

Mon, April 15, 2024 • 4:30pm - 5:30pm (1h) • Boliou 104
Collage of works from Dustin Yager

This talk sponsored by the Christopher U. Light Lecturship for the Arts with support from the Mary Leigh Miller Ceramics Fund

Dustin Yager (he/they) is a ceramic artist whose work deals with popular perceptions of pottery, taste, class, and all that goes along with it. Under the umbrella of Ceramics and Theory, he makes functional porcelain pieces that thrive on the unexpected. Fleeting moments in time—from expletives and doodles to memes and catchphrases—are frozen in time alongside vivid and energetic brushstrokes. Ceramics and Theory promotes the power of expression, honesty, and frustration; of surprise and camaraderie. Prior to coming to New York in 2016, Dustin lived and worked in Minneapolis and Chicago. They have exhibited their work across the country and internationally, and given presentations about their practice at the Walker Art Center, the National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), Greenwich House Pottery, and Edinboro University. Yager earned a Master of Arts degree in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and holds a BA from Carleton College '06.
